Welcome!! I am so happy you are here.

Welcome to ECCE: a publication inviting you to slow down and take a good long look at reality. Reflections on faith, philosophy, education, and everything in between. Pause, ponder, and behold with me here at ECCE.

Why ECCE?

Ecce. Latin for behold.

I have a particular affinity to this word, behold—I am quite taken by the idea of beholding. Why? Because it is something we are, almost as a rule, encouraged NOT to do in our culture today. Everything is instantaneous—everything happens in a perpetual rush. Everyone is always late, always with a too-long to-do list and too little time. We get frustrated when drivers in front of us don’t step on the gas precisely when the traffic light turns green. We are annoyed with the customer ahead of us in line who won’t order quickly enough, and perplexed by the barista who can’t fill a coffee cup in 0.2 seconds. We see that a relative is giving us a ring and instead of being delighted we are disturbed, because that call was scheduled for next week and I am busy! Too much to do, too little time, and the clock is always ticking.

Why is it that we feel we must get our money’s worth on a 24 hours we didn’t earn? We didn’t have to wake up this morning and yet we did, and how often, instead of being filled with joy and gratitude, we are filled with annoyance and anxiety? What are we rushing towards? And what are we missing along the way by never pausing for more than the briefest of moments?

What are we missing by failing to ever take the time and clarity of mind to slow down and truly behold our own lives, the world around us, the tiniest miracles and grandest wonders that unfold constantly before our very eyes?

Why ECCE? Because reality is worth beholding. Not just glancing at, not just skimming past for the highlights.

Have the courage to peer deeply into the world around you and into your own soul. Seek answers to your deepest and most burning questions with the undying hope that those questions do indeed have answers. Ponder the mysteries and wonders that you can’t quite fit into your head and thus are the occasion for ever-fruitful discovery.

My hope is that this blog will give occasion for you to pause, to ponder, and to behold the wondrous reality that we exist in the midst of. Hit the subscribe button below and the join the conversation—let’s behold together!

Who am I?

I’m Megan. Or just Meg. A recent grad from George Washington University and currently based in DC, I am an aspiring philosopher and Catholic with a deep love and yearning for the truth. I love to read and write, but even more I love a good old-fashioned, long and winding conversation (so do comment your thoughts on any and all my posts! Ideas are played out in dialogue, and I can’t do that without you!).

This blog is an opportunity for me to share some of my ponderings about the world, about humanity, about the wonder of our existence and what it is we ought to do with that truly incredible fact.

Why subscribe?? You’ll never miss an update—every new post is sent directly to your email inbox. Subscribing helps support me and my writing!
